YouTube, one of the biggest websites today. it was started in a garage just like many other tech companies. It was created by three guys who name are Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. They all worked together at a company called PayPal before deciding to start their own business. They are also very good friend.
In 2004, they came up with an idea to make a website where people could upload videos of themselves for dating. They set up their workspace in Hurley’s garage. This dating video idea didn’t work well, even though Hurley offered women $20 to post their dating videos.
While their website was still being tested (in beta), they changed their idea.Instead of focusing on dating videos, they decided and became eager to make a platform where people could upload any kind of home video. It’s not clear exactly why they switched, but there are a couple of stories. Jawed Karim says they were inspired by two big events: Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction at the 2004 Super Bowl and the tsunami in the Indian Ocean. Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, on the other hand, say they just wanted a place to upload videos they took at a party. Chen also mentioned that they hired a PR firm to help them come up with a better story than the dating site idea.
The very first video that were appear on YouTube was created and posted by one of its co-founders, Jawed Karim. It was a simple video of him at the zoo, talking about elephant trunks, and it was titled “Me at the Zoo.” This happened while YouTube was still in the testing phase.
By 2005, YouTube started to become very popular. It went viral, meaning a lot of people started using it quickly. At first, it was getting 30,000 new views every day. One of the first big hits was a Nike ad that got one million views. When YouTube officially launched, it was getting eight billion views every day. That’s a huge number!
Not long after YouTube became popular, Google noticed its success and bought it. Today, we are still using YouTube to watch all kinds of videos, from advertisements to simple videos like “Me at the Zoo.”
So, what started as a simple idea in a garage turned into one of the most popular websites in the world. YouTube changed the way totally we share and watch videos, and it all began with three friends who wanted to try something new. Just start from small, kept Never Give Up atitude and you can make revolution.
