In the World of Technology today, there are new and certain developments that have been introduced, and the world at large is far more different than it used to be.

The introduction of new Gadgets and other Technologies has made the World more effective, adaptable, and flexible.

Let's Look at the introduction of Artificial intelligence (AI) specifically in Malawi.

Malawi is still a developing country, and AI has brought controversial issues but let us first take a narrow scope looking into how AI and Automation have impacted Malawian businesses, AI has helped, a lot for instance, there's increased efficiency, better and improved customer service, just to mention a few.

Talking to some of the students in Malawi studying computer science and ICT in some Malawian Universities, responded to the Pros and Cons of AI, they had this to say;

How will AI and automation impact the way businesses operate in the future?

Artificial intelligence and automation are advancing quickly. Many jobs that involve repetitive tasks and following set rules can be done by computer programs and robots. This means in the future, a lot of basic office work, manufacturing, transportation, and service industry jobs currently done by humans may be replaced by AI and machines. This could save companies money but also means less traditional jobs available for people but it will in return be taking in more tech people more especially those who mastered AI.

What challenges do you see businesses facing in adapting to new technologies?

Adapting businesses to use more technologies like AI, automation, and advanced computer systems can be challenging. Older employees may struggle to learn completely new skills needed to work alongside intelligent machines. Companies will likely need to budget for retraining current workers or gradually shifting to younger digital native employees already comfortable with AI and new tech. This transition period within companies could be messy and complicated. The most vulnerable businesses or companies are those in developing countries that currently aren’t in use of any tech products as such transitioning will be tough.

How do you think businesses can best take advantage of the opportunities presented by AI and automation?

Despite job loss challenges, AI and automation also offer businesses exciting opportunities to become more efficient, productive and profitable. Repetitive back-office tasks can be automated freeing up human employees for more creative roles. AI analytics can extract useful insights from big customer and internal data to inform better decisions. Automated logistics chains powered by algorithms can save costs. AI bots can potentially service customer needs around the clock. Overall usage of these technologies strategically can help businesses maximize results while utilizing less human effort.

What industries do you think will be most impacted by these technologies?

Experts estimate the first wave of significant job loss disruption will likely occur in sectors like food services, retail, transportation, warehousing, manufacturing, and administrative office roles. These tend to involve highly repetitive and rule-based tasks which are easier to automate. More creative professions focused on uniquely human skills like critical thinking may be safer from displacement for now. Healthcare is also expected to see major advances through AI diagnostic tools and intelligent patient care assistance. Though this could improve outcomes, it may reduce some traditional healthcare roles over time.

African businesses are taking advantage of technology since advertisement has become easier using social media platforms. Technology can enhance the efficiency of businesses. For instance, the use of communication technology can enable the sealing of contracts online. Automation can impact African businesses but not to the extent of other continents due to a lack of resources.
